Giraffes? Giraffes! - More Skin With Milk-Mouth

i have posted other albums from the side projects of "giraffes? giraffes!" but this is the first feature of their main project. this album cover is rather... intense? anyways, this was one of my first math rock albums, and i still really love it. i find it amazing that the entire album is a just a two piece band, one guitarist and one drummer, both very skilled at their instruments. i highly recommend this album to any fan of math rock, or experimental rock in general.

The Littlest Viking - Labor & Lust

given that math rock (and occasionally instrumental rock in general) is often too musically technical to concern itself with such silly matters as "emotion" or "mood" or "theme", the littlest viking gives math rock fans a nice break from mindless guitar tapping and lets them step into a world of almost euphoric, upbeat instrumental rock with the odd time signatures we all love.

more post rock for you :D

this time with lots of electronic, drum and bass, and braindance influences, and a bit of apocalyptic themes too! this is actually 65days' second feature here on noise daily, so, uhh, neat :p

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F♯ A♯ ∞

the first album by gy!be, and still one of my favorites (they are kinda all my favorites though). my version is 3 tracks long, each one very very long for a single song, but yours might differ, as there are several. each track is divided into several movements with recurring themes and melodies, but the tempo throughout is rather slow, but shifting. the base of this album seems to be the end of the world, and in fact, wikipedia says it was one of the main inspirations for the film "28 days later". if you haven't heard this album yet, i highly recommend it (but seriously, where have you been if you haven't heard it?).

my first album from the books, and one of my favorites. awesome from start to finish <3

after i heard this album, i got every single other piece of the books discography asap. i was not disappointed!

awesome math rock album, ranging from the traditional fast, time shifting guitar noodling of 'futuristic genitalia', to beautifully composed acoustic guitar solo pieces like the opening track, 'andrea loves horses'.

jittery, glitchy chiptune music + lo fi break beats. all i can say, i am too tired to say more tonight *-*

µ-Ziq - Brace Yourself

an ep based on another album by µ-Ziq called "lunatic harness", which is equally awesome (though not quite as happy). mostly drum and bass / breakcore with a few acid influences. very well polished and a few tracks that you wont be able to get out of your head (listen to the video below!)

The Teknoist - ...Like A Hurricane Made Of Zombies

i dunno this album maybe has THE BEST NAME EVER? and i am using caps, which is kinda a big deal. anyways, the music itself is a nice blend of breakcore and death metal, it's what the kids these days would call "totally hardcore, dudeeee".

Boris - Amplifier Worship

some of the most distorted, droning, noisy sludge/doom metal on the planet. boris is well known for changing styles pretty much every time they release something, and this release is well known for its heavily distorted, droning guitar, death metal style growling and screaming, and the odd noisy synth and polyrhythm drum beat thrown in for good measure. just listen for yourself :)

Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun

i love boredoms. a nice mix of tribal drumming, minimalism, and noise, of course. beautifully done audio manipulation and filtering, along with great composition, makes this album stand out as one of their best.

just a note on track labeling: every song in this album (but the last track) is named a symbol. neat :3

Ametsub - The Nothings Of The North

i found this artist through their music video for the song "repeatedly"... i instantly went and bought their albums, as soon as the video was over. it is seriously one of the most impressive music videos i have seen in my entire life, and the huge amount of effort put into it is extremely easy to see. let me say that, this album (as well as the other) matches the video, some of the most highly polished glitch i have ever heard (that is a bit of an oxymoron, i know). very, very skilled musician(s), they are amazing at what they do.

Shitmat - One Foot In The Rave

breakcore/raggacore with a great sense of humour and some wonderful beat juggling and amen break abuse. also check out shitmats ep, "killababylonkutz ep", in which every song is based off the same generic ragga sample.

Ken Kennerson - Beautitude

one of the many side projects of a great group, "giraffes? giraffes!", ken kennerson ranges in styles throughout their albums. this one tends to be a strange mix of happy, upbeat experimental rock, and depressing melodic tunes. this whole album is something of an emotional trip, not to mention hella weird.

Boxcutter - Glyphic

despite what everyone else says, this is not dubstep. this is the music that dubstep producers hear in their nightmares...

James Blake - CMYK

one of my internet-friends, who is into dubstep, introduced me to james blake, and I must say, I don't really consider him dubstep... there is no generic "wubwub" dubstep sound in his music, and I would actually qualify him more as "glitch", "minimalistic dance", or simply "electronic", more then anything else. This ep is a decent starting place in his music, since it immerses you in his strange melodic styles, odd synth patches, and broken sounding beats. make sure to listen with decent headphones, blake really seems to enjoy sub bass!

Goto80 - Digi-Dig

catchy chip music is everywhere, but none seem to incorporate experimental and glitch elements while STAYING catchy as well as Goto80. Listen to "Datahell" and you will see what I mean ;)

Baths - Cerulean

huge overuse of compressors with high release and sidechaining leads to some of the heaviest beats ever created by human kind. though, somehow, through the madness, these beats are quite entrancing, and calming, and the melody somehow manages to blend through the heavy bass as well. its danceable, but you'll be too relaxed to get off your seat!

Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die

jazzy post-rock that you have (hopefully) already heard of... many consider it one of the most important albums in the foundation of post-rock, though it draws on other influences like electronic music and modern jazz (lots of improv!). this album is kind of like what my dreams sound like?

Ladyscraper - The Death Of Marry Poppins

reminds me a bit of igorrr, noisy, harsh, metal influenced breakcore, this time with some speedcore flair. do not watch the video below if you are epileptic. please.

Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)

classic eno, during his art/glam rock phase. most say it's a concept album revolving around the communist revolution in china, though i am not totally sure. most of the songs are rather happy, despite the serious subject(s) at hand. you'll have to look up the lyrics for this one, some of them are priceless.

Dan Deacon - Spiderman Of The Rings

dan deacon is really an artist you have to hear for yourself to even begin to understand. quirky electronic music made on an old casiotone keyboard, each song is hilarious and fun to listen to at the same time. this is, in my opinion, dan's most coherent album, though you might wish to explore his other albums as well, as they are all very awesome :)

Miley Cyrus - Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus

pure sonic art. everyone on earth should listen to the entirety of this album, at least once.
