the new EP by sampler-extraordinaire, secret mommy. as the name suggests, all samples are taken from field recordings at a canadian shopping mall.

The Tape-Beatles - The Grand Delusion

pioneers in sampling, layering, and having a complete disregard for all musical copyrights ever made, the tape-beatles were the first musicians (other than negativland, and perhaps john cage) to create music categorized in a genre known as soundcollage, or plunderphonics, if you'd rather call it that. they used analog tape recorders to steal from pretty much everything, often messing with it, and blending it with other samples, nearly beyond the point of recognition. they also experimented with other forms of media, notably a very interesting audio-visual technique that involved 3 or more projectors overlapping each other's images (seen below), creating visual collages almost as strange as their audio ones!

Björk - Vespertine

hey, it is officially noise daily's 100th post!

and you know what that means: björk.

those who know me at all know i am a bit of a björk freak, so i am actually surprised i managed to wait until now to post any albums by her, but i felt the 100th post was a big enough occasion to bring her up :)

if you have never heard the magic of björk, this is a good place to start. everyone else; why dont you have her discography, hmm? :P

just joking! björk is sort of one of those artists you either love or hate, along with several other artists i have posted before, so don't feel bad if it ain't your thing (i personally dont love radiohead, for example).
