Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - In Glorious Times

thought this would make for a nice early-halloween post... seriously, don't listen to this album if you aren't ready to sell your soul to satan in exchange for listening to one of the craziest avant-death-metal groups that ever existed. enjoy >:D

p.s. take a look at the lyrics for some of the songs on this album for extra wtf-ness... here is the below song's lyrics.

Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica

this isn't so much a "suggestion" as a "requirement". seriously, if you don't listen to this album now, then leave this blog, fast and bulbous.

Don Caballero - American Don

haven't posted math rock for a while, so i thought this classic math rock album was in order. its instrumental, and not as intense as some other math rock i've posted, but it is rather different than the tapping + superfast drums combo that is somewhat popular among the math rock genre.

An Anthology Of Noise And Electronic Music - First A-Chronology

a bit odd for this post, as this is not a singular album, but a collection of albums, an anthology, of noise and electronic music. a must have for any lover of noise and experimental electronic music, this anthology (of 6 different parts, the first is the only one i feature here because, well, its the first) is a very complete set of works, detailing a very complete history of the evolution of experiments in electronic music and noise. many artists, from sonic youth, to john cage, to evolution control committee, all make an appearance in this collection. this collection is a great introduction to the vast world of the eclectic electronic (heh).

Les Rallizes Dénudés - December's Black Children

obscure (but influential and awesome) japanese noise rock with simple chord progression and insane feedback and vocals... its hard to explain, really.

warning to listener: beware, this music has a possible risk of making the listener high entirely through sound.

i... am not joking. 0_0

Sonic Youth - Sister

a great introduction to noise, using a traditional rock setup (despite some very un-traditional guitar tunings!). pioneers in punk rock that are a bit underrated.

The Residents - Gingerbread Man

concept album by the residents with some really great (and really bizarre) lyrics. this originally had some sort of computer program to go along with the album with freaky avant-garde graphics flying all over the place, but i find that the album is great even without it. "everything was okay before mtv" :)

65daysofstatic - One Time For All Time

more post rock for you :D

this time with lots of electronic, drum and bass, and braindance influences, and a bit of apocalyptic themes too! this is actually 65days' second feature here on noise daily, so, uhh, neat :p

Boris - Amplifier Worship

some of the most distorted, droning, noisy sludge/doom metal on the planet. boris is well known for changing styles pretty much every time they release something, and this release is well known for its heavily distorted, droning guitar, death metal style growling and screaming, and the odd noisy synth and polyrhythm drum beat thrown in for good measure. just listen for yourself :)

Hella - Hold Your Horse Is

heavy, noisy math rock, with a drummer on drugs that apparently make time go slowly. tapped discordant patterns often make their way into these things, but it creates a sort of harshness that is very fun to listen to. also, tempo shifts are all over the place here.

HEALTH - Get Colour

high tempo noise rock/punk, monotone droning vocals and lots of neat synth effects, juxtaposed with death metal style double bass drumming. from wikipedia:

"To promote their 2009 album, Get Color, the band held a sweepstakes contest, in which a winner of a golden ticket was awarded a free trip to Los Angeles to go to Magic Mountain with the band. Other prizes included locks of the band members' hair and posters autographed in blood."
