György Ligeti - Edition (Collection)

hello again! just checking up, hiya! :)

just fyi, edition 7 does not feature the song below (continuum), i believe it is in 5, but the entire collection is totally worth finding.

btw, edition 8 is la grand macabre, ligeti's insane opera about the events leading up to the apocalypse, and the inevitability of death. it features a car horn opening, a door bell solo, a debate between two political parties (black and white) which consists of only direct insults and immature gestures, and a hilarious piece in which a man dressed as the moon (he's the king/mayor) receives coded messages from the head of the secret service. did i mention almost the entire play is a serial 12-tone composition (perfectly atonal, mathematically speaking). find a recording of it if you can!

Leo Ornstein - Piano Music

something special for you tonight!

a pioneer in experimental composition, leo ornstein used tone clusters, large masses of contiguous notes well known from the wide use of classical great henry cowell, to their widest extent. his pieces can range from the peaceful serenity of classical sonatas to brutal and technically demanding pieces with titles like "suicide on an airplane". very worth the listen, the discord is stupendous!

Igorrr - Poisson Soluble

igorrr's second feature here, this album has less death metal influences (though it still has the occasional growling voice), drawing more on the complex drum programming of braindance artists like the flashbulb and venetian snares, but throwing in classical elements and instruments as well. very different then the other album, but still very enjoyable!

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F♯ A♯ ∞

the first album by gy!be, and still one of my favorites (they are kinda all my favorites though). my version is 3 tracks long, each one very very long for a single song, but yours might differ, as there are several. each track is divided into several movements with recurring themes and melodies, but the tempo throughout is rather slow, but shifting. the base of this album seems to be the end of the world, and in fact, wikipedia says it was one of the main inspirations for the film "28 days later". if you haven't heard this album yet, i highly recommend it (but seriously, where have you been if you haven't heard it?).
