a bit odd for this post, as this is not a singular album, but a collection of albums, an anthology, of noise and electronic music. a must have for any lover of noise and experimental electronic music, this anthology (of 6 different parts, the first is the only one i feature here because, well, its the first) is a very complete set of works, detailing a very complete history of the evolution of experiments in electronic music and noise. many artists, from sonic youth, to john cage, to evolution control committee, all make an appearance in this collection. this collection is a great introduction to the vast world of the eclectic electronic (heh).

The Residents - Gingerbread Man
concept album by the residents with some really great (and really bizarre) lyrics. this originally had some sort of computer program to go along with the album with freaky avant-garde graphics flying all over the place, but i find that the album is great even without it. "everything was okay before mtv" :)

Ken Kennerson - Beautitude
one of the many side projects of a great group, "giraffes? giraffes!", ken kennerson ranges in styles throughout their albums. this one tends to be a strange mix of happy, upbeat experimental rock, and depressing melodic tunes. this whole album is something of an emotional trip, not to mention hella weird.
you can buy it for 5 dollars here, and listen to the entire album, free, here: http://giraffesgiraffes.bandcamp.com/album/beautitude
or, you can get it somewhere else for free, if you have no conscience :p
no video today, listen to any of the songs in the album at their bandcamp, i just mentioned it a second ago, sillybutt!

Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)
classic eno, during his art/glam rock phase. most say it's a concept album revolving around the communist revolution in china, though i am not totally sure. most of the songs are rather happy, despite the serious subject(s) at hand. you'll have to look up the lyrics for this one, some of them are priceless.

The Residents - The Mole Show (Live in Holland)
the residents, an amazing avant-garde deconstructionist group/troupe of weirdos in (sometimes) matching costumes, performing one of their several bizarre live musical dramas, interspersed with comments and narration from penn jillette, of penn and teller fame. the story is, uhh, well, it seems to be about moles migrating? or something? i am not entirely sure, but is pretty interesting to try and figure out! one of the many great albums from the residents, you'll surely be hearing back from them on this blog sometimes soon :)

HEALTH - Get Colour
high tempo noise rock/punk, monotone droning vocals and lots of neat synth effects, juxtaposed with death metal style double bass drumming. from wikipedia:
"To promote their 2009 album, Get Color, the band held a sweepstakes contest, in which a winner of a golden ticket was awarded a free trip to Los Angeles to go to Magic Mountain with the band. Other prizes included locks of the band members' hair and posters autographed in blood."
