Marconi Union - A Lost Connection

man, it's a bit more than half a month since i last updated! i realize that i am pretty freaking awful at this "daily" thing, hehe. maybe i should rename it noise weekly? idunno, it's becoming harder and harder to find albums that i haven't already posted :s

hopefully you enjoy this one, its glitchy idm with some ambient/acoustic/house elements... i guess you could call it downtempo? who knows, but it's nice, hehe

Fennesz - Hotel Paral.lel

just checking in to say i am still here, just really busy... sorry, i should have called this site "noise every-once-in-a-while" :P

today is some neat ambient drone/glitch made with a guitar, field recordings, and post processing out the wazoo :D

Dolphins Into The Future - Ke Ala Ke Kua

if you loved the previous album, you will most likely love this one as well :D

its made up of three dreamy, hawaiian stylized, slightly noisy soundscapes with pretty drones and atmospheres, very peaceful, a bit less alien sounding than the previous album.

Bee Mask - Elegy For Beach Friday

if aliens wrote music, this is probably kind of what it would sound like... recently i've been getting into drone music, which is basically music that is not as much focused on melody or rhythm as it is on texture and dynamics, and i must say, this is a freaking good drone album, with tons of freaky alien soundscapes, so if you are into drone, you should definitely get this album. i like it so much, that i actually recommend buying it (i did, and ok, maybe thats just cause it was just released and wasn't on any big torrent sites yet, but whatever, it's still worth it). this album is a masterpiece :D

Bop - The Amazing Adventures Of One Curious Pixel

happy fourth of july, americans who read this! everyone else, WHY DO YOU HATE FREEDOM!?!? D:

jokes aside, this album has a very unique minimalist style that takes influence from many genres. sadly, this does not seem to be a concept album (though it would make a great one!), but the album flows nicely, and it never gets boring. great album, a+++, would pirate again.

Yasunao Tone - Solo for Wounded CD

glitch/noise music made by scratching a cd, in the same way a dj would scratch a record. cuts, pops, and retriggers, along with the noisy sound of the data being transfered, create a very interesting electronic atmosphere, as long as you are not easily annoyed by repetition.

Ryoji Ikeda - 20' To 2000 - Variations For Modulated 440Hz Sinewaves

a conceptual piece by Ryoji Ikeda, an experimental/glitch electronic musician who has had some very interesting ideas throughout his career (this being no exception!). this piece is an exercise in very limiting minimalism, focusing entirely on rhythm and dynamics, and totally ignoring timbre (texture) and pitch, by using the purest sound that can be synthesized, the sine wave, at 440Hz, or A (above middle C). an interesting listen, but probably not something you'd listen to more than once unless you are VERY into conceptual art and very extreme minimalism.

p.s. use stereo headphones for this piece! the interplay between the left and right sides makes up one of the main features of this album, and without it, the piece becomes even more repetitive :P

Venetian Snares - Cubist Reggae

ok, i understand many of my readers have a strong aversion to anything by venetian snares (for some weird reason), which is why i haven't posted anything by him here yet, but i must say that this is quite different from snares' usual amen break slicing madness. harshly chopped samples from reggae music intersect with warm analog sounding synths and strange chanting to create a very unique sound that one would definitely not expect from aaron funk. a very enjoyable ep, whether or not you like funk's previous works.

Brian Eno - Ambient 1: Music for Airports

eno has been posted here once before, but that was when he was still doing glam rock and such... this is one of the most classic ambient albums ever made, and it is pretty much impossible not to relax to it :p

it was created to be played in airports, where eno described the atmosphere as "tense and non-inspiring", so it is supposed to be calming and unobtrusive, which i think he certainly accomplished!

Björk - Vespertine

hey, it is officially noise daily's 100th post!

and you know what that means: björk.

those who know me at all know i am a bit of a björk freak, so i am actually surprised i managed to wait until now to post any albums by her, but i felt the 100th post was a big enough occasion to bring her up :)

if you have never heard the magic of björk, this is a good place to start. everyone else; why dont you have her discography, hmm? :P

just joking! björk is sort of one of those artists you either love or hate, along with several other artists i have posted before, so don't feel bad if it ain't your thing (i personally dont love radiohead, for example).

alright, now before you listen, let me take the time to give myself a plug for my irc chatroom, where all noise daily readers (and other weirdos) hang out:

server: irc.maddshark.net

channel: #noise

i go by the username "stelpa" there :)

alright, enough self promotion! happy 100th post day everyone :3

Autchre - Tri Repeatae++

crap, sorry i keep missing days, things are distracting >_<

anyways, today we've got a relatively popular glitch artist that most electronic music fans either love or hate (i tend to be the former). a mixture of glitchy digital noise, break beats rhythms, and occasional dance music influences, autechre somehow manages to be rather slow and minimalistic (a la steve reich, repeating shifting rhythms abound!) without becoming monotonous. i chose this album from their somewhat large discography because i found it the simplest to get into, because of its constant tempos, catchy basslines, and skeletal beats. listen for yourself... the repetition and shifting is rather infectious :)

Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun

i love boredoms. a nice mix of tribal drumming, minimalism, and noise, of course. beautifully done audio manipulation and filtering, along with great composition, makes this album stand out as one of their best.

just a note on track labeling: every song in this album (but the last track) is named a symbol. neat :3

Boxcutter - Glyphic

despite what everyone else says, this is not dubstep. this is the music that dubstep producers hear in their nightmares...

James Blake - CMYK

one of my internet-friends, who is into dubstep, introduced me to james blake, and I must say, I don't really consider him dubstep... there is no generic "wubwub" dubstep sound in his music, and I would actually qualify him more as "glitch", "minimalistic dance", or simply "electronic", more then anything else. This ep is a decent starting place in his music, since it immerses you in his strange melodic styles, odd synth patches, and broken sounding beats. make sure to listen with decent headphones, blake really seems to enjoy sub bass!

Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport

pulsing electronic music with a healthy dose of reverb and dancyness. one of those albums that tends to cross the line between noise and dance music.

Alva Noto - Unitxt

minimalist ambient glitch trip through data and rhythm and math and sound. this guy is a genius, and i honestly don't think i am exaggerating here. he has sonic and rhythmic ideas that most people would never even consider, and all while generally staying within the limits of the traditional electronic music template (4/4 time signature, 120-ish bpm). this is one of the essential alva noto albums, a few other (in different styles) being "For", "Viroon", and his famous "Xerrox" projects. i might post those some other time, because they are just that good. ok enough ego stroking for noto, enjoy the sounds.

p.s. just in case you are wondering about the random things being read in the intro track down there, that is explained here:

"...the album is one of the few (if not the only) Alva Noto releases that feature vocals. French sound poet Anne-James Chaton intones in a robotic manner on two tracks, including opener “U_07.” He reads the contents of Nicolai’s wallet (credit cards, driver’s license, receipts, etc.) in a constant outpour. This only furthers the album’s harshness, reducing personal information about the man to mere information, data to be processed."
