happy fourth of july, americans who read this! everyone else, WHY DO YOU HATE FREEDOM!?!? D:
jokes aside, this album has a very unique minimalist style that takes influence from many genres. sadly, this does not seem to be a concept album (though it would make a great one!), but the album flows nicely, and it never gets boring. great album, a+++, would pirate again.
those who know me at all know i am a bit of a björk freak, so i am actually surprised i managed to wait until now to post any albums by her, but i felt the 100th post was a big enough occasion to bring her up :)
if you have never heard the magic of björk, this is a good place to start. everyone else; why dont you have her discography, hmm? :P
just joking! björk is sort of one of those artists you either love or hate, along with several other artists i have posted before, so don't feel bad if it ain't your thing (i personally dont love radiohead, for example).
alright, now before you listen, let me take the time to give myself a plug for my irc chatroom, where all noise daily readers (and other weirdos) hang out:
server: irc.maddshark.net
channel: #noise
i go by the username "stelpa" there :)
alright, enough self promotion! happy 100th post day everyone :3
one of my internet-friends, who is into dubstep, introduced me to james blake, and I must say, I don't really consider him dubstep... there is no generic "wubwub" dubstep sound in his music, and I would actually qualify him more as "glitch", "minimalistic dance", or simply "electronic", more then anything else. This ep is a decent starting place in his music, since it immerses you in his strange melodic styles, odd synth patches, and broken sounding beats. make sure to listen with decent headphones, blake really seems to enjoy sub bass!
dan deacon is really an artist you have to hear for yourself to even begin to understand. quirky electronic music made on an old casiotone keyboard, each song is hilarious and fun to listen to at the same time. this is, in my opinion, dan's most coherent album, though you might wish to explore his other albums as well, as they are all very awesome :)
quirky experimental tunes, very catchy and fun to listen to. this album incorporates old mountain folk instruments along with the octopus project's signature electronic doodling in odd time signatures.
Guest post here. I am the regular posters brother. Sorry for any confusion; so am I. This is a album I picked, it isn't as crazy as by brothers usual stuff. I recommend this band and album to anyone who doesn't favor static and loud noises. Others might like it as well. My brother also likes this album. It has very diverse songs from an operatic opening (Theme from Flood) to an accordion based song (Istanbul). I also recommend any other album by this great band. You might also know them, if you are a weird fan freak, as the band who did the theme song for "Malcom in the Middle" and the "Hot Dog Song" from "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse".
