all-girl japanese space rock, with a good sense of rhythm and noise influences. nice mixture of cute, cheery, trippy, and melodic, it makes me happy :3

Modified Toy Orchestra - Toygopop

circuit bending kids toys to make freaky noises, yay. the album starts out pretty melodic (with odd sounds and time signatures), then gets experimental, and then eventually changes to what could mostly be defined as "noise".

Sickboy Milkplus - Tweencore

breathtaking breakcore/hardcore/speedcore deconstructions of all the crap kids are listening to nowadays. hella fun.

We Versus The Shark - Ruin Everything!

hmm... math rock/metal with lotsa shouting, talented instrumentalists, and very interesting sudden switches. also, it makes you wanna tap your feet, even though you don't know the time signature AT ALL.

Matmos - A Chance To Cut Is A Chance To Cure

the masters of freakish plunderphonics, matmos, decided to make an album made entirely of noises from real surgeries/hearing-tests/hospitals/etc (except "for felix" which was played on their pet rat's cage). it is pretty awesome, actually, and not as gross as you would expect. i bet you never expected you'd start dancing to the sounds of a liposuction, did you? yeah, matmos does that to people.

The Avalanches - Since I Left You

man, I guess I am in a found-samples mood today. ok, i guess today is found-sample day. anyways, the avalanches use pretty much only samples, and they are from everywhereeeee in the music world. seriously, i only recognize, like, 2 of them. anyways they have a very good sense of melody, and their choices of samples are amazing. keep in mind these are pretty much only musical samples, nothing like the books, who use samples from pretty much anything. ok enjoy the music.

yeah i referenced the books in another post a little while ago, and i realize that some of you suckers may have never heard of the books; poor saps. i am here to cure that. they have lots of acoustics and found-sample mayhem. other albums and eps by the books that i recommend: all of them.

The Orb - The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld

yeah, no intro needed here. this is the trippiest of all of the house albums, by the trippiest all the house artist(s). technically, this band is a cool down group, for AFTER you trip, but i hear it is also pretty good while tripping too. it is also good while not tripping. yeah, it is kinda always good. yesh.

Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children

debut album of boards of canada, triphop/idm experts. they are lovely. very emotional, very spacious, lots of very unique sound manipulation as well. out of all the great electronic musicians that have come from scotland, this band is definitely one of them.

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Falling Through A Field

continuing with trippy day, we move on to black moth super rainbow, and, along having a freaking awesome name, have some of the most creative, crackle-y, and, well, freaky beats and sounds i have heard in a long time, along with some very good use of the band's signature melodic vocoding. its weird, but just trust me on this one ok? ok.

Daedelus - Of Snowdonia

so today is trippy electronic music day (according to me), lets celebrate with some trippy stuff ok? (new writing style by the way cause nobody cares what i say or think anyways)

ok this guy is crazy... lotsa lo fi glitchy breakbeat wtf going on here, with some very pretty acoustic sounds. it all just kinda blurs into pretty noise. listen to the whole album for the best experience (as always). also: where the heck is snowdonia? sounds neat.

Kid Koala - Some of My Best Friends Are DJs

Probably one of the most talented turntablists I have ever heard, Kid Koala often voyages into the realm of the experimental, creating his own sound that could almost be defined as post-hiphop. In fact, his accuracy in scratching is so advanced that he manages to scratch out complete, detuned melodies out of single samples, making very twisted versions of what would otherwise be ordinary tunes, and throwing in some hip hop and experimental spice along the way.

Ryoji Ikeda - 1000 Fragments

Ryoji Ikeda is an experimental electronic and noise musician who enjoys pushing the medium of sound to it's limits. This album in particular makes the listener feel like a test subject - tones just on the edge of a human being's limited hearing create complex rhythms, and samples gathered from data files turned into audio are juxtaposed by recognizable sample of, for example, NASA's mission control. Put on some good headphones, start the album, close your eyes, and get ready to have your hearing tested.

Mr. Bungle - California

Shortening these reviews now, since I think the music should speak for itself, disregarding of course a short introduction to the artist/album and maybe a couple of comments. It's better to do these things early on, I have heard.

Though most Mr. Bungle fans often have other favorite album's, I chose this one specifically because, believe it or not, it is the most accessible release from the bizarre experimental band. Their sound generally involves rapid style/genre switching, freakish vocals, and a dazzling display of talent on the part's of all band members involved. It is something that is quite difficult to explain, and you will really just have to hear for yourself.

Secret Mommy - Plays

Glitch artist Secret Mommy utilize some of the most bizarre samples since Matmos, and chop them up to create some very complex electronic music that somehow also manages to be catchy at the same time. The samples used show a wide variety of sources, everywhere from classical acoustic samples a la The Books, to animal noises and deconstructed pop hits. However, these odd parts aside, Secret Mommy creates what some have described as "Glitch Pop"; catchy tunes with nonsense lyrics, clicks and cuts, and a bizarre sense of humor that does not try to take itself seriously.

Maps & Atlases - Perch Patchwork

Math Rock has an interesting idea behind it, but today, the genre is predominately ruled by over-compressed tapping guitars with annoying repeating patterns, show off drummers, and whiny voiced musicians with barely any sense of melody, that honestly would fit in better with the emo crowd*. However, this release by Experimental Folk/Math Rock group Maps & Atlases really brings expression back to the genre of odd times and weird themes. Tagged by some as Outsider Music because of the singer's very distinctive voice and lyrics, along some odd lo-fi mixing and production techniques, it certainly takes a bit of getting used to. However, once you start to get into it, the beautiful and complex melodies and rhythms will make this an album you want to listen over and over again.

Katamari Game Series - Katamari Fortissimo Damacy

Today I felt like doing something a bit different, just to get off to a good start and let you know that this blog is NOT focused on one genre or another. This is, in my opinion, the catchiest game soundtrack in the history of game soundtracks, and makes for a great listen on it's own as well. Each song is quirky but fun in it's own unique way, very much like the game itself. Not focusing on one specific style, the soundtrack of the Katamari Damacy video game is quite varied and interesting throughout, and it is easy to see how much work was put into each track, taking influences from everything from Japanese Pop to Drum n' Bass.

Hrvatski - Insect Digestion Melancholy / Epoxy

Welcome to Noise Daily! I hope you will enjoy this site, I am looking forward to writing it, and listening to lots of great sounds with you.

Our first entry here is a single by Hrvatski, and it was actually one of my first forays into the world of less-than-boring electronic music. It is a two sided single... Side a features a track known as Insect Digestion Melancholy, which has a remarkably beautiful melody and less than ordinary rhythms sounds and grooves, while Side b features Epoxy, a live recording of some interesting breaks played along with what sounds like a smooth jazz loop.

Each post here at Noise Daily will be accompanied by a video or audio clip, if I am able to find/make one. Enjoy!
